The Write Minds

I have written previously that I participate in two writer's groups on a regular basis. I wrote about the South Carolina Writers Association group last week, and this week I'm following up on the other group - The Write Minds.

The Write Minds meets in our home on the first Saturday of each month at 9:30 in the morning, and the third Wednesday at 7 in the evening. These groups are fairly small - 8-10 on Saturdays and 4-5 on Wednesdays. We provide snacks and beverages and an informal atmosphere. Writers come from a variety of backgrounds, ages, and genres. Some are published and some are just starting, but the purpose is to help each other, in a positive way, to improve as writers. If a writer has material they want reviewed, we ask that they post it on a return email that goes out announcing the meeting, or to use our dropbox. Submissions range from a single haiku to a chapter or two from a novel. You do not have to have material to attend. We look for insights from everyone whether they are presenting or not.

We prefer that certain categories are not represented; such as porn, erotica, and violence or sex for their own sake.

We read the material ahead of time so we can jump right in and comment on the work. We go until everyone has been reviewed to satisfaction, and then we stop. Sometimes people hang around afterwards and chat about writing.

Finally, if you live in the Upstate of South Carolina (Greenville-Travelers Rest-Spartanburg-Possum Kingdom) and are interested in taking a look at The Write Minds, please send me a message on Facebook and I'll get in touch with you.
